Engineer, Ride & Show Specialist – Mechanical Systems (Testing & Analysis)

Problem solving, electromechanical systems expertise and the ability to use good judgment in high pressure situations are just some of the key attributes we are looking for in our Ride and Show Technicians. And, from our Figure Finish and Creative Fabrication Artists who work with our animatronics, skins and silicones, to our Technical Services Warehouse Associates, we have several opportunities for maintaining the fun in a technical capacity here at Universal Orlando.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair ride and show systems, ensuring they meet internal and external specifications.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams in support of the design, development, and delivery of themed entertainment Ride/Show systems.
- Review vendor-provided design review documents, including drawing review, component selection review, calculation review, test plan review, test results review, and/or review of other deliverable items.
- Perform Ride/Show systems research, contribute to Ride/Show systems scope, specification, design or analysis, field assistance for installation, test, and adjustment.
- Generate, edit, and update Ride/Show engineering specifications.
- Support the design and delivery of attraction systems by performing tasks to ensure the portability, maintainability, reliability, operability, serviceability, supportability, and safety of ride and show systems.
- Perform technical analyses to assist in determining feasibility of Ride/Show systems to mitigate risk for project delivery.
- Participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable technical field required. Advanced degrees preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in theme park specific technical/engineering role(s) required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in theme park development, construction, show and ride systems design or fabrication within the entertainment/theme park industry preferred.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to organize and manage a complex series of tasks and data to develop and implement show and ride systems.
- Ability to research and synthesize developmental and available products from any industry into useful systems for theme park applications, as required.
- Comfortable influencing decisions of major nature. High degree of tact & diplomacy to obtain favorable decisions or maintain good will.
- Comfortable working in a non-routine environment with frequently changing situations.
- Some global travel may be required (less than 30%).
