About the role
We are Olsson, a people-centric firm dedicated to improving the world through engineering and design solutions. Our Rail Water Resources team seeks a Project Engineer who will assist with various engineering and project management duties, including hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and modelling, preparing project documents, and obtaining permits for water resources projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Handle complex engineering tasks, including hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and modelling
- Prepare project documents and ensure work aligns with scope, schedule, and budget
- Independently develop new techniques, coordinate with Olsson teams, and guide others on design tasks
- Collaborate with project managers to report progress and identify challenges
- Auxiliary supervision and providing technical guidance to less experienced staff
- Provide guidance related to overall objectives, critical issues, and new concepts
- Maintain project and client information in the firm’s project management system
- May travel and work in all types of terrain and weather conditions at project sites in various stages of construction

- Professional engineering license (PE)
- Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
- 4 years or more of water resources engineering experience
- Experience with floodplain management, including permitting coordination with local, state, and federal agencies
- Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, master planning, stream restoration is a plus
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS or other related hydrologic and hydraulic software is preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to contribute and work well with a team
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to represent Olsson in a professional manner at all times
