About the Role

The Engineer - Plastics plays a crucial role in the development and confirmation of new model plastic shop equipment. They are responsible for ensuring project milestones are met before production start-ups at North American Manufacturing Centers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead equipment installation projects and report progress to team and management.
  • Maintain and update project schedules based on Toyota's new model launch milestones.
  • Allocate technical resources to Toyota locations as needed.
  • Procure machinery from vendors using tools like Ariba and SAP.
  • Attend machine confirmation trials at vendors across North America and Japan.
  • Support the development of new model equipment, including risk assessment, specification, installation, and trials.
  • Identify and address equipment problems, implementing countermeasures.
  • Coordinate installation activities for interior/exterior plastics equipment and processes.
  • Create new machine specifications and lead spec/drawing reviews with vendors and team members.
  • Support the development of standardized work processes, team member training, and quality control plans.
  • Lead equipment commissioning through a Kanban process.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage multiple equipment project schedules.
  • Experience in skilled trades management and oversight.
  • Experience in overseeing machine installation projects and general construction contracting work.
  • Experience in new model launches for automotive and manufacturing industries.
  • Experience installing manufacturing equipment such as conveyors, robots, assembly work cells, punch machines, milling machines, etc.
  • Able to travel up to 50% and travel internationally (Canada, Mexico, Japan).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of automotive equipment installation experience.
  • Preferred certifications: TUV technician certification, OSHA10, passed TBP thru panel, TECS Experience (Digital Kanban), Ariba, SAP, Catia.
