About the Role

Performs engineering work, analysis, design, and management of engineering projects in transmission, distribution, regulation, system control, and corrosion control. Operates with limited supervision, making independent decisions and recommendations on engineering problems, procedural issues, and design standards. Provides technical guidance, training, and expertise to less experienced staff and other departments. Represents the company at industry meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies necessary projects and prepares cost justification studies and cost-benefit analyses. Prepares and submits projects for the capital budget.
  • Prepares designs, drawings, estimates, specifications, and reports for Gas Engineering projects, ensuring conformance with codes, regulations, and department design standards.
  • Performs and coordinates gas distribution and transmission planning using pressure/flow system modeling studies.
  • Participates in municipal project planning to negotiate favorable modifications and minimize impact to existing gas facilities.
  • Directs major projects (capital, maintenance, RD&D) and manages supporting staff, including scheduling, inspection, field change approvals, cost control, and prioritization.
  • Performs vendor and contractor qualification comparisons and analyzes bids for compliance with specifications.
  • Investigates gas incidents, performs root cause analysis, and prepares reports to prevent future occurrences.
  • Prepares standards and work procedures for gas transmission and distribution work.
  • Collaborates with other departments to achieve company goals.
  • Directs and trains assigned employees.
  • Stays informed on new industry technology and evaluates recommendations for new materials and equipment.
  • Performs other related assignments as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5 years of engineering work experience or Master’s Degree in Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise employees effectively.
  • Proficiency in promoting and utilizing teamwork to achieve goals.
  • Ability to apply individual judgment, initiative, and decision-making across a broad range of assignments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers and management.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Windows environments and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Master’s Degree or advanced technical status.

  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Additional Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to company emergencies to restore service to customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within the company service territory as needed.
