ENGINEER NUCLEAR 3 (RTNE INSTRUCTOR)
The Role
Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems.
Conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors.
Conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants.
Studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal.
Other areas of research include radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses and performance metrics.
Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
Responsibilities
- Develops and delivers initial and continuing radiological training for nuclear engineers at NNS in support of Article 109 qualification.
- Prepares and administers retention of knowledge examinations.
- Maintains administrative training records both in physical form and in electronic learning management systems.
- Implements continuous improvement initiatives for training operations.
Qualifications
- Must Have:
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
- Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
- Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Nice to Have:
- Nuclear training, radiological training, or other adult training experience and/or knowledge of adult learning theories.
Skills
- Strong in using MS Office suite, especially presentation software.
- Proficiency in success factors, checkboxes, and other learning development/delivery platforms.
- Professionalism, leadership, and radiological expertise inside and outside the classroom.
- Create a positive learning environment and encourage a principles-based approach to applying radiological controls.
