About the Role

Responsible for rapidly and reliably designing and activating commercial customer services across network access technologies, including dedicated fiber and PON environments. You will implement and ensure consistent operating, configuration, and engineering standards to deliver stable product performance aligned with company guidelines. This role supports System Field Operations to ensure all Circuit Activation solutions operate within company specifications and collaborates on developing technical solutions for field deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Actively support efforts to enhance customer service and experience.
  • Develop and coordinate with system field staff on dedicated fiber operations and changes to Headend and Network Interface Device (NID) hardware.
  • Liaise with Network Engineers, Architects, Managers, NOC, and Tech Support to deliver end-to-end customer solutions.
  • Provide engineering support and direction for new or existing technologies and operational initiatives.
  • Support infrastructure tools and systems such as Viavi Fusion, OcularIP, and ServiceNow.
  • Manage priorities effectively while meeting daily objectives and advancing long-term projects.
  • Maintain and grow team involvement in scripting and automation initiatives like Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP).
  • Evaluate and consult with senior management on dedicated fiber commercial solutions to ensure excellent customer experiences.
  • Initiate quality control to optimize dedicated fiber equipment, ensuring guaranteed customer speeds and sufficient bandwidth delivery.
  • Instill a sense of ownership with a focus on quality, collaboration, and delivery, demonstrating continuous improvements in self, team, and tools.
  • Support the capital budget process for dedicated fiber services and execute approved plans.
  • Plan and implement maintenance window activities and inform required departments.
  • Manage vendor relationships, evaluate/test new equipment, and leverage partnerships to deliver solutions.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Datacom network design and architecture.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco and/or Ciena CLI device configuration.
  • Advanced knowledge of TFTP, TOD, CM files, and related provisioning elements.
  • Knowledge of ONT and OLT PON infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of CWDM/DWDM deployment infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of access technologies such as G-PON, XGS-PON, and E-PON.
  • Experience with service activation testing protocols such as Y.1564, RFC 2544, and 802.1ag.
  • Deep understanding of Internet, wired, and wireless networking standards and protocols.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks under pressure.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and software applications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of AC/DC power systems related to equipment installations.
  • Knowledge of electronic and fiber optic theory.
  • Knowledge of IP addressing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Industry and vendor-specific certifications and training (e.g., Cisco, NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E).
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Datacom network design and architecture.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and RIPv2.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with TCP/IP and IP/MPLS networking, subnets, and the OSI Model.

Pay

For candidates whose primary place of work will be in Massachusetts or Maryland, the expected salary range for this position is $69,900–$104,900. For candidates in Cleveland, OH, the expected salary range is $63,600–$95,400. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and specific work location.

Schedule

This is a hybrid position open to individuals residing within the organization’s footprint, including Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
