About the role
We are looking for an early-career Mechanical Engineer to join our Tallgrass Project Engineering team. This role offers hands-on exposure to pipeline systems, pump and compressor stations, terminals, and mechanical facilities supporting major projects. Candidates with 0 to 5 years of experience will thrive by contributing to a wide variety of projects from concept through execution.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, specification, and analysis of mechanical systems, including pipelines, pumps, valves, pressure vessels, and rotating equipment.
- Assist in project execution, from feasibility and front-end engineering to construction support and commissioning.
- Perform calculations, material selection, and mechanical integrity assessments.
- Work closely with project managers, field personnel, and vendors to ensure technical accuracy and safety compliance.
- Participate in inspections, failure analysis, and reliability improvements of mechanical systems.
- Prepare engineering deliverables such as datasheets, reports, and drawing reviews.
- Ensure designs meet industry standards (ASME, API, DOT, etc.) and internal specifications.
- Follow prescribed procedures and conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations.
- Work non-traditional hours as needed.
- This role will include up to 80% travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related field.
- 0 to 5 years of mechanical engineering experience (internships or co-ops in oil & gas are a plus).
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment used in pipeline or terminal operations.
- Working knowledge of CAD and engineering analysis tools.
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and a proactive mindset.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments as needed.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to midstream project work or operations support.
- Experience with pump or compressor station design.
- Root cause analysis or mechanical integrity experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic engineering principles.
- Works under direct supervision but displays initiative and moves toward requiring less supervision.
- Ability to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
- Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience, and skill sets of the successful candidate.
