ENGINEER MECHANICAL 3

The Role

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.

Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

This position will support facilities projects and engineering team in either the plant engineering, project engineering, or crane engineering team.

• Demonstrate solid knowledge of applicable regulations, codes and standards for this position.
• Possess the ability to create (basic) mechanical designs with minimal oversight from a senior engineer.
• Have experience evaluating, maintaining and performing troubleshooting on moderately complex utility systems, building systems (HVAC, plumbing, etc.) and industrial equipment.
• Develop project execution documents for estimating and planning and implement mechanical projects with team support.
• Solve problems in an organized manner.

Requirements

• Must Have:
• Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
• Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
• Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
• Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have:

• Basic MS Office suit and AutoCAD skills are needed (Word and Excel).
• Able to communicate clearly with supervisors, peers and customers.

Skills Developed

• Basic understanding of electrical equipment and system interfaces with mechanical systems.
• Understanding of simple electrical and structural drawings.
• Basic understanding of project scheduling tools.
