About the role
The Assistant Engineer plays a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of the vessel's engineering systems, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer. This position requires a strong background in maritime engineering and adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Aiding the Chief Engineer and other engineering personnel in operating and maintaining the vessel's machinery, including engines, generators, pumps, and refrigeration systems.
- Performing regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting engineering systems to identify and resolve any issues that may arise during the voyage.
- Following safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for the crew and the vessel's cargo.
- Collaborating with other crew members to coordinate operational activities and ensure smooth functioning of the vessel.
Requirements/Qualifications
- USCG Merchant Mariner Credential, international and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages.
- Must hold a valid USCG/STCW medical certificate.
- Must hold a valid TWIC card and a U.S. Passport.
- Must have current USCG STCW Medical Certificate, renewed every 2 years.
- Education/Experience: Maritime Academy graduate preferred, prior experience as an Assistant Engineer preferred.
- ABS Nautical Systems NS5/HELM experience preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Able to work in confined spaces, carrying heavy tools, climbing and descending ladders, consistently asked to lift and carry loads at least 40 pounds.
