Engineer - Marine

Information TechnologyFull-time
We need to output HTML fragment with sections: About the role? The posting includes a paragraph about Savage (company description) maybe "About the role" or "About the company". The instructions: use

for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). We need to include sections only when posting has real specific content. We have: - Company description: "Grow Your Career with Savage! Savage is a global provider..." This is about the company, could be "About the role"? Actually "About the role" is for role description; we have "Position Summary". Could treat that as "About the role". We'll include a section with heading

About the role

and then a

containing the company description and position summary? But we need to preserve all substantive info. The position summary is separate: "The Assistant Engineer’s primary responsibilities include managing the operation and maintenance..." That's responsibilities. So we could have "About the role" containing the company description (first paragraph). Then "Responsibilities" containing the position summary and the bullet list of responsibilities. We have "Requirements / Qualifications" section with a lot of detail. Could split into Requirements and Qualifications? The instruction says we can use Requirements, Qualifications as separate headings if content exists. The posting lumps them together: "Requirements/Qualifications". We could treat as a single section

Requirements

or

Qualifications

. Probably better to use

Qualifications

as it includes credentials, endorsements, medical, TWIC, passport, education/experience, physical requirements. We'll include all that. We have "Benefits" section: "Benefits You Receive When Working With Savage" then list: Travel assistance to & from vessel paid for by the employer, A culture that appreciates team members, Profit Sharing, Excellent Benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with match, Opportunity for growth, A commitment to helping our team members do things that they never dreamed possible. Also later "Additional Information" includes benefits description: medical, dental, vision; life, AD&D, disability; supplemental coverage; HSAs/FSA; paid time off; profit sharing; 401(k) with match. We need to preserve all substantive info, not invent. So we should combine benefits info into a Benefits section with a
  • list. We have no explicit Pay or Schedule info, so we omit those sections. We must remove boilerplate: cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning, duplicated lines, application instructions. The posting includes: "To Apply for this position, click on the "Apply" button above and complete the application." That's application instruction -> remove. Also "A complete job description is available upon request" maybe minor metadata; could be dropped. Also "Savage is an Equal Opportunity Employer and maintains a drug-free workplace" -> EEO boilerplate -> remove. Also "California Residents Job Application Privacy Notice You may view available jobs at www.savageco.com/careers and apply using the online job posting." -> remove. Also "#IND1" maybe internal code -> drop. Also "Team members may be eligible for a benefits package that is dependent on hours worked and position classification. This package may include medical, dental, and vision coverage; life, AD&D, and disability insurance; supplemental coverage options; health savings and flexible spending accounts; paid time off; profit sharing; and a 401(k) plan with company match. Benefits are subject to change. For more information visit https://savageco.com/careers/benefits-information/" This is benefits info, we should keep but maybe incorporate into Benefits section. The earlier benefits list also includes similar items. We'll combine. We need to preserve all substantive info: company description, position summary, responsibilities list, qualifications details (including USCG MMC, endorsements, medical certificate, TWIC, passport, familiarity with EMD/Detroit generators preferred, education/experience, physical requirements), benefits list. We must not repeat job title as heading. The job title is "Assistant Engineer". Not to be used as heading. We must output only HTML fragment, no /, no markdown fences. Let's craft:

    About the role

Savage is a global provider of supply chain infrastructure and logistics solutions with more than 200 locations across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Founded in 1946, Savage has grown from a small family business to an international company with over 4,000 team members. The company is recognized as a Military Friendly Employer and a Top Company for Women to Work in Transportation, supporting growth and impact for its employees.

    Then responsibilities:

    • Monitoring and troubleshooting engineering systems to identify and resolve any issues that may arise during the voyage.
    • Following safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for the crew and the vessel's cargo.
    • Collaborating with other crew members to coordinate operational activities and ensure smooth functioning of the vessel.
    • Maintaining mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, from propulsion to auxiliary machinery, while overseeing engine room operations for both the tug and barge.
    Now qualifications:

    Qualifications

    • USCG Merchant Mariner Credential with international and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages.
    • International STCW Endorsements: Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch (STCW III/1), Medical First Aid Provider (STCW A-VI/4-1), Able Seafarer-Engine (STCW III/5), RFPEW (STCW III/4), STCW Basic Safety Training (STCW VI/1), PSC (STCW VI/2), Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPSD) (STCW VI/6).
    • National Endorsements: Engineering Officer – DDE 500/Unlimited HP, Assistant Engineer Limited (3rd Assistant Engineer of Motor Propelled Vessels Unlimited Horsepower preferred), QMED-Any Rating, Lifeboatman, Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, Steward’s Department (F.H.), Tankerman Assistant limited to Dangerous Liquid (DL) Cargoes PIC endorsement preferred.
    • Must hold a valid USCG/STCW medical certificate (renewed every 2 years).
    • Must hold a valid TWIC card and a U.S. Passport.
    • Familiarity with EMD’s and Detroit Generators is preferred.
    • Maritime Academy graduate preferred.
    • Prior experience as an Assistant Engineer preferred.
    • ABS Nautical Systems NS5/HELM experience preferred.
    • Physical Requirements: Able to work in confined spaces, carry heavy tools, climb and descend ladders, consistently lift and carry loads of at least 40 pounds.
Now benefits: We have two benefits lists: first: Travel assistance to & from vessel paid for by the employer, A culture that appreciates team members, Profit Sharing, Excellent Benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with match, Opportunity for growth, A commitment to helping our team members do things that they never dreamed possible. Second: medical, dental, vision coverage; life, AD&D, and disability insurance; supplemental coverage options; health savings and flexible spending accounts; paid time off; profit sharing; and a 401(k) plan with company match. We should combine, avoid duplication but preserve all. Let's create a
with items: - Travel assistance to and from vessel paid for by the employer - A culture that appreciates team members - Profit sharing - Excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company match - Opportunity for growth - Commitment to helping team members do things they never dreamed possible - Medical, dental, and vision coverage - Life, AD&D, and disability insurance - Supplemental coverage options - Health savings and flexible spending accounts - Paid time off - 401(k) plan with company match Note profit sharing appears twice; we can keep one. We'll output:

      Benefits

      • Travel assistance to and from vessel paid for by the employer
      • A culture that appreciates team members
      • Profit sharing
      • Excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company match
      • Opportunity for growth
      • A commitment to helping team members do things they never dreamed possible
      • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
      • Life, AD&D, and disability insurance
      • Supplemental coverage options
      • Health savings and flexible spending accounts
      • Paid time off
      • 401(k) plan with company match
We should not include Pay or Schedule sections. Check for any leftover boilerplate: we removed EEO, application instructions, privacy notice, etc. Also removed "A complete job description is available upon request". Also removed "#IND1". Also removed "To Apply for this position...". Also removed "California Residents Job Application Privacy Notice...". Also removed "Team members may be eligible for a benefits package that is dependent on hours worked and position classification..." we incorporated that info into benefits; we kept the details but not the sentence about eligibility dependent on hours. Should we keep that? It's substantive: "Team members may be eligible for a benefits package that is dependent on hours worked and position classification." That's a condition. Might be worth preserving. We could add a

before the list: "Team members may be eligible for a benefits package that is dependent on hours worked and position classification." Then the list. Let's add that. Thus Benefits section:

Team members may be eligible for a benefits package that is dependent on hours worked and position classification.

      then
list. Now ensure we didn't miss any substantive info: The "Position Summary" we used as part of responsibilities; we included that paragraph. Also we included "Key responsibilities involve maintaining mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, from propulsion to auxiliary machinery, while also overseeing the engine room operations for both the tug and barge." That's a separate sentence after position summary; we added as a bullet. Check we included all bullet points from responsibilities: The list after "Responsibilities / Job Duties" includes 5 bullet points. We included them. Also we added the extra bullet about maintaining mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems (from the position summary). Good. Check qualifications: We included all items from the long list. Let's verify: - USCG Merchant Mariner Credential, international and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages. (we have) - Note: Submit a copy of your current MMC with your online application. That's application instruction; we can drop? It's about submitting copy; it's part of application instructions. The instruction says remove application instructions. So we can drop that line. Good. - International STCW Endorsements list: we included all. - National Endorsements list: we included. - Must hold a valid USCG/STCW medical certificate. (we have) - Must hold a valid TWIC card and a U.S. Passport.
