About the role

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has a vacancy within the Engineering Resource Development Program (ERDP) located in the Training and Technology Transfer Section. This position provides entry-level engineering experience for recent graduates while working toward professional licensure. This position operates in a structured, training-focused environment where Engineer Interns apply engineering theory to field, office, and laboratory work supporting DOTD transportation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Apply basic engineering principles and formulas to routine calculations
  • Aid with inspection, construction, and maintenance of transportation infrastructure
  • Support laboratory, field, or office engineering activities
  • Collect and analyze samples for testing and evaluation
  • Aid in cost analyses and economic justification studies
  • Participate in training and professional development activities
  • Assist in the supervision or coordination of technical staff as appropriate

Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate
  • Note: This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate.
  • Note: Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

  • Minimum qualifications include eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

Pay

  • Engineer Intern 1 - $2,115.20/biweekly
  • Engineer Intern 2 - $2,263.20/biweekly
