About the role
The overall function of this position is to apply scholastic theory and professional engineering skills to traffic engineering involving standard procedures and practices in the field and office. This position is in the Engineering career progression group (CPG) of Engineer Intern 1 to Engineer 5 and is located in the Traffic Operations Section of District 03/Unit 002 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Engineer 6 position in 03/002.
Responsibilities
- Affords assistance with the District’s traffic engineering studies; determines and compiles the information needed to complete studies, reviews and analyzes the data, formulates and evaluates alternatives.
- Makes recommendations to and writes engineering reports and/or letters.
- Reviews and makes recommendations for improvements to District traffic signals, traffic signing, road markings, and roadway geometrics to ensure current compliance with State and Federal regulations.
- Designs and prepares detailed sketches, diagrams, drawings, and computer models concerning traffic signal installations and modifications, traffic signing, pavement markings, and geometrics.
- Recommends potential projects within the district utilizing various funding sources; compiles information, does analysis, provides and submits stage 0’s and various engineering reports.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Requirements
- Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
- Note: This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate.

Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
- Required Certification: Engineer Intern Certificate in the state of Louisiana.
- Required License: Professional Engineer License in the state of Louisiana.
