GAF Energy is transforming the rooftop solar industry to generate “Energy from Every Roof.” As a Standard Industries company, GAF Energy partners with North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, GAF, offering homeowners elegant, roof-integrated solar options. The company also provides commercial tax equity funding for large-scale rooftop solar projects.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on development of solar laminates/shingles in the lab, including envisioning, designing, and prototyping.
  • Ensure products meet initial performance goals and collaborate with the reliability team for rigorous lab and field testing (PV and roofing standards).
  • Innovate by developing new materials and designs with suppliers/collaborators, using software (optical, electrical, thermal) to accelerate the design process.
  • Quickly diagnose and solve complex technical issues with critical thinking.
  • Serve as a mentor and go-to expert on solar panel laminate development, deployment, and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate across teams at GAF Energy to plan, develop, and launch new solar products.
  • Communicate concepts and results to executives and stakeholders regularly.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Material Science, or Electrical Engineering (required). Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) preferred.
  • 5+ years of R&D experience in a lab setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years in solar module R&D, design, and testing.
  • Deep knowledge of solar module electrical circuits and material integration for optimal PV generation and 25+ year reliability.
  • Understanding of key PV failure modes, materials, and testing best practices (e.g., UL/IEC certification).
  • Proven track record of innovation (e.g., patents), problem-solving, and delivering technical solutions on time.
  • Experience defining engineering specs for processes, testing, and quality control in high-volume production.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in lab, pilot, and manufacturing environments.

Pay

Base Salary Range: $108,000–$148,500. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on geographic location, relevant experience, skills, education, and qualifications.

Schedule

20% travel required in the U.S. and globally.
