About the role

The refrigeration engineering position ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes align with the organization's policies and objectives. Responsibilities include reviewing designs, layouts, and projects for compliance, providing design engineering for new ammonia refrigeration projects, evaluating existing systems, and making or recommending changes as needed. The engineer also supports engineering construction projects, develops Tyson specifications and standards, prepares and reviews estimates, coordinates project design work, and acts as the company's representative for external engineering firms.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure engineering projects comply with organizational policies and objectives
  • Review and approve designs, layouts, and projects before release for bidding or construction
  • Provide ammonia refrigeration design engineering for new projects
  • Evaluate existing ammonia refrigeration systems and make or recommend changes as necessary
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable ammonia refrigeration codes and provide support for engineering construction projects
  • Assist in developing Tyson specifications and standard guidelines for design implementation of all refrigeration projects
  • Prepare and review estimates for design and construction, manage project budgets and schedules
  • Coordinate project design work, including planning and design, with other departments
  • Act as the company's representative when an outside engineering firm is performing refrigeration design work for their discipline
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of complete ammonia refrigeration specifications for bidding and construction purposes
  • Analyze construction bids to recommend the successful bidder
  • Maintain current project knowledge concerning budget, schedule, and all pressing issues
  • Assume responsibility for project cost management
  • Communicate and interact professionally and constructively with customers, colleagues, vendors, division leaders, and upper management

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering required
  • Registration (by examination) as a Professional Engineer preferred
  • Experience: 3+ years' ammonia refrigeration experience preferred
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge and use of computer programs, drafting, spreadsheet, database, and scheduling programs. Microsoft exposure preferred
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Special Skills: Capable of working on multi-faceted ammonia refrigeration projects of any magnitude with limited supervision; demonstrated ability to complete complex refrigeration projects on time and on budget; familiarity with project management and engineering discipline concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: None
  • Travel: Frequent travel is involved, minimum 50%

Pay Range/Rate: $102,000.00 - $170,000.00
