About the role
The Engineer III – Electro-mechanical plays a crucial role in the Power Tools Engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of electro-mechanical systems and motor controls. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, supplier development, and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative, reliable, and safe electro-mechanical systems and motor controls using 3D modeling and detailed drawings.
- Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) and documentation in PLM systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements, "Critical to Quality" attributes, and ensure robust product development.
- Release comprehensive product specifications, RFQ packets, and costed BOMs; partner with suppliers and contract manufacturers to achieve optimal cost, quality, and timely delivery.
- Contribute to the development of electro-mechanical modules for power electronics and power tool applications supporting both high-mix and low-volume production.
- Conduct tolerance stack-ups, DFMEA, PFMEA, process control plans, and release engineering changes to support robust product development.
- Perform engineering analyses (structural, thermal, airflow, FEA), design validation, and advanced testing to optimize product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement for manufacturing, assembly, and product performance issues.
- Support manufacturing and DFM initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Support regulatory documentation and reporting.
- Support multiple projects, meeting schedule, cost, and quality objectives, and provide regular status updates to management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required.
- 3-5 years of experience in product development of high-volume electronic modules and assemblies.
- Proficient in 3D modeling software (CATIA preferred).
- Familiarity with printed circuit board design and integration.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes for electronic and other products.
- Demonstrated ability to design plastic and metallic components, working with a variety of materials.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and failure analysis.
- Experience with supplier development and working with contract manufacturers for key components.
