Engineer III-Design & Analysis

Responsibilities

• Provides technical assistance to external customers, sales, manufacturing, and quality, visiting customer sites when required to ensure design needs are met on a timely and effective basis.
• Generates, leads, and approves design proposals via Global Incremental Process and communicates alignments or misalignments with customer requirements based on internal capabilities.
• Instructs, directs, and checks the work of less experienced engineers or technicians; actively supports mentoring and conducts training activities.
• Recommends materials based on application criteria and reviews material specifications to align Greene, Tweed (GT) and customer requirements.
• Identifies and proposes development or continuous improvement opportunities for GT to extend technology or product capabilities.
• Supports disposition of material batches flagged for review through the internal quality system using understanding of material data (e.g., Tg, density, modulus).
• Ensures model accuracy, design documentation, drafting standards alignment, and testing requirements when generating or approving drawings for production.
• Conducts complex design analysis of components or assemblies, extending current product/material/manufacturing capabilities, and documents work using engineering principles.
• Defines testing, qualification, and validation methods aligned with application requirements; communicates testing methods for finished products and system capabilities to Central Engineering.
• Produces, oversees, and approves external-facing technical reports as needed.
• Leads technical or business projects supporting strategic goals, leveraging cross-functional networks to drive execution.
• Generates, leads, and approves Product Performance analysis reports for returned GT products to determine failure modes and areas for improvement; advises on design changes.
• Dispositions finished product submitted to the Material Review Board and develops tools for product or process improvement based on observations.
• Proposes and generates Work Instructions aligned with industry standards and external customer requirements.
• Attends and participates in technical meetings and committees, representing GT to apply suitable input and controls on materials and parts specifications.
• Organizes and delivers technical presentations to support business goals for audiences such as customer meetings, industry forums, and technical societies.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or an appropriate technical field.
• 6–10 years of experience in an engineering or design environment.
• Experience using 3D CAD software; knowledge of FEA systems preferred.
• Strong computer literacy, especially in MS Office.
• Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
• Experience in polymer, plastics, or elastomer design/manufacturing preferred.
• Working knowledge of Lean 6 Sigma Principles; Yellow Belt preferred.
• Experience with material testing and data analysis preferred.
• Previous customer-facing experience desired.
• Ability to travel 10–20% for customer or industry meetings.
• U.S. Person status as defined by applicable law for ITAR compliance (U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, or granted refugee/asylum status).
• Over 6 years of mechanical composite design experience.
• Good business acumen and experience working with customers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; self-driven and flexible.
• Working knowledge of GD&T principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the Aerospace & Defense Industry.
• Design and manufacturing experience with plastic parts.
• International working experience.
• Experience with technical writing (test plans, design documentation, work instructions).
• Knowledge of FEA systems.
