Engineer III, Certification & Compliance

GAF Energy is transforming the rooftop solar industry to generate “Energy from Every Roof”. As a Standard Industries company, GAF Energy works in partnership with North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, GAF, offering homeowners elegant, roof-integrated solar options. The company also provides commercial tax equity funding for large-scale rooftop solar projects.
GAF Energy is seeking a Certification and Compliance Engineer 3 to lead certification of new solar roofs that harvest energy from rooftops and deliver it to customers in a way that brings delight. This exciting role will work within a cross-functional team to develop, certify and release solar shingles in volume production.
Responsibilities

With outstanding technical acumen, attention to detail, and strong leadership skills you can help us protect what matters most.
- Lead the UL and IEC certification of the solar roof technologies and products as well as Laboratories and Factories compliance.
- Plan, implement tests and identify relevant codes and standards for which the product should comply.
- Pre-test the product to ensure successful certification and provide design input in order to ensure continuous improvement of new and novel products.
- Own the product certification and compliance.
- Be the go-to expert on all codes, standards, and required testing for certifications.
- Set up and run test programs for solar and home energy products.
- Work with NRTLs (Nationally Recognized Testing Labs) to get compliance.
- Team up with design and reliability folks to figure out why things fail (root cause) and fix 'em up.
- Keep improving the current products—characterizing and optimizing everything.
- Manage test schedules and deliverables.
- Collaborate with engineering and product management on new designs.
- Design, buy, install and use test equipment (mechanical, thermal, electrical).
- Write up test reports after you analyze the data and make recommendations for future improvements.
- Help advance renewable energy codes by contributing to committee groups.
- Keep detailed track of test projects timeline and commitment to delivery certification on time.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 5 years of experience doing UL or IEC certification for solar products.
- Experience with environmental chambers, test instruments, and data systems.
- Solid background in data analysis (especially statistical analysis).
- Experience creating and executing design validation plants/test methods to ensure certification tests are passed.
Qualifications Preferred
- Understanding of programming language.
- Experience working with cross functional teams and being able to influence design based on test results.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
Travel Requirements
Able to travel USA and globally (20%).
Pay
Base Salary Range: $108,000-$148,500.
