Pay

  • Engineer I: $5,761 per month (EN-18, Step D)
  • Engineer II: $6,221 to $7,125 per month (EN-20, Step D to I)
  • Engineer III: $6,721 to $7,696 per month (EN-22, Step D to I)

About the Role

The State of Hawaii offers engineering positions at three levels. Applicants will be considered for all levels for which they qualify.

Duties

  • Engineer I: Performs routine professional engineering work applying basic engineering principles and techniques, following specific instructions and established practices.
  • Engineer II: Performs specific and limited professional engineering assignments using standard methods and techniques, which may involve minor phases of a broader project.
  • Engineer III: Performs moderately difficult professional engineering work in planning, design, construction, maintenance, operation, or evaluation of engineering projects. May assist higher-level engineers on complex projects.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident alien, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Applicants graduating within three months may apply with an official transcript and verification of expected graduation.
  • Experience:
    • Engineer I: None required.
    • Engineer II: One year of progressively responsible professional engineering experience.
    • Engineer III: Two years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience.
  • Driver’s License: Some positions may require a valid driver’s license.
  • Physical Requirements: Some positions may require the ability to lift and carry loads of various weights, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Security Clearances:
    • SIDA Clearance: Required for airport positions. Must pass a fingerprint-based federal criminal history record check with no disqualifying convictions in the past 10 years. Cost is the applicant’s responsibility.
    • TWIC Clearance: Required for harbor positions. Must pass a fingerprint-based federal criminal history record check with no disqualifying convictions in the past 7 years. Cost is the applicant’s responsibility but will be reimbursed upon hire.
