Engineer III

Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, or HVAC

Performs complex maintenance and repair services of the hospital’s physical plant; equipment, buildings and properties. This includes mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or HVAC duties.

Boilers and Auxiliaries

Operates and maintains stationary gas and oil fired boilers and auxiliaries in supplying hot water and steam for other power generating purposes.

Education and Training

• Attends department specific education/training, in-services, and staff meetings.
• Attends mandatory in-services/educational/training activities.

Physical Demands

• Provides a safe and sanitary environment for patients, family, staff, and self.
• Services equipment by lubricating, cleaning, replacing parts, and making minor adjustments.
• Servicing equipment requiring carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.
• Operates and maintains repairing of boilers, refrigeration units, air conditioning units, ice machines electronic and pneumatic controls.
• Understands and able to safely operate and repair all central plant equipment, including, but not limited to boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps and compressors.
• Performs electrical installation and maintenance.
• Understands the operation of electrical motors, controllers and related electrical equipment.
• Able to wire and install standard 110 and 220 volt outlets.
• Understands refrigeration system and chilled water systems. Able to vacuum out system, reclaim freon, and add freon to refrigeration systems.
• Tests runs emergency generators and understands the operation of transfer switch.
• Performs plumbing installation and maintenance.
• Understands and able to perform preventive maintenance of all equipment as assigned.
• Initiates work requests for building and equipment repairs.

Skills and Knowledge

• Working knowledge in computer energy management systems.
• Working knowledge in various mechanical hand held tools required in the performance of the trade.
• Working knowledge of power equipment, drills, saws, pneumatic tools, compressor, airless sprays.
• Working knowledge of pumps and pumping system.
• Working knowledge of scaffolding and ladders.
• Working knowledge of trucks and forklifts.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate effectively.
• Previous experience within the healthcare industry preferred.
• Computer skills preferred.
• Ability to interact effectively with patients, customers and associates in a way that exhibits superior integrated customer service and teamwork.
• Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy while directing co-workers.
• Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.

• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
