Engineer II – Ground Systems
About the role
We are looking to expand our team with a talented and energetic systems engineer in support of development of ground systems for commercial, DoD, and other government customers. This position consists of working on a tightly integrated team in a fast-paced Agile environment to deliver continuous innovation. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Responsibilities
- Support design, development, integration and testing of an enterprise satellite ground system.
- Perform requirements decomposition, use case development, and establish verification attributes (Verification Test method, level, approach, success criteria, and Test Requirements).
- Support Interface definition development and documentation in the form of ICDs.
- Support trade studies, performance analyses, risk and opportunity assessments.
- Prepare and give presentations to peers, management, and customers.
- Support program gates as defined by customer, such as the System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).
- Apply extensive technical expertise and knowledge of ground systems and systems engineering principles.
- Guide the successful completion of ground programs and may function in a project leadership role meeting cost, schedule, and performance goals.
- Work may be performed without detailed direction. Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Work Environment
- On-site work requiring regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location.
- Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Requirements
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level related degree (Master’s Degree or Ph.D.) may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
- Knowledge of related disciplines in software engineering, hardware engineering, integration, test engineering, quality engineering, configuration/data management.
- Knowledge of systems engineering roles and functions, including operations concept development, requirements management, functional analysis, interface definition and control, synthesis, and/or verification and validation.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes: SysML diagrams (Block Diagrams, Inner Block Diagrams, State Machines, Activity Diagrams and Sequence Diagrams) and UML diagrams (Class Diagrams, Sequence of Events Diagrams, and Activity Diagrams).
- System modeling and simulation: Ability to create and simulate system models to analyze system behavior and performance.
- Experience with requirements management tools like Jama or DOORS.
- Experience in developing SEMP, specifications, ICDs, architecture, use case, and other ground CDRLs and artifacts.
- Knowledge of and support for various test milestones like Test Readiness Review (TRR), Factory or Site Acceptance Test (FAT/SAT); Security milestones like Interim Authority to Test (IATT), Authority to Operate (ATO); Ground sell-off milestones like Ground Completion Review (GCR).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in mission management, command & control, mission data processing, ground terminal and infrastructure domains.
- Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Information Assurance (IA) in developing ground systems.
- Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
- Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI/CD) principles with security requirements as part of practicing DevSecOps on programs.
- Experience in cloud development environments.
- Experience with Atlassian Tools such as Confluence and Jira.
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $79,365 - $134,921. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
