About the role
We are seeking a Process Engineer in our Technology department based in Monroe, NC. This role involves leading and optimizing hot working processes for Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel alloy products.
Responsibilities
- Technical lead for various post-melt processes including open-die press forging, GFM radial forging, and hot rolling of Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel alloy products.
- Develop and maintain metallurgical and operational expertise in thermo-mechanical processing of Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel alloys, and impact on material properties.
- Led and support programs to continuously improve process yields, cost, cycle time, as well as resolve process-related non-conformances.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality personnel to develop improvements to manufacturing processes and standards (KCCs) that enhance safety in the workplace, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Lead and support team-based continuous improvement activities including risk assessments, 5-why problem solving, CEDAC, process mapping, process audits, and standard work.
- Support internal/external customers by analyzing thermo-mechanical processing data to associate process parameters and material quality.
- Support Product Engineering and R&D in the development, evaluation and standardization of new products and processes.
- Apply thermal/deformation modeling to evaluate and improve products and processes.
- Provide technical support during customer audits.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in a metals-related industry.
Skills
- Strong technical background with a focus on metals processing and structure/property relationships.
- Technical writing/oral presentation skills.
- Good interpersonal communication skills at all levels.
- Eager to learn and become a technical expert & primary point of contact in area of responsibility.
- Comfortable being on the shop floor observing processes and interfacing with operators.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and requirements to shop floor personnel in a clear, concise manner.
- Self-starter and ability to work independently as well as on a team.
- Uses scientifically rigorous, data driven approach to problem solving.
- Able to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining composure and meeting established deadlines.
