About the role
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a full-time Engineer II to join our team in Torrington, Wyoming. This position is responsible for performing tasks related to highway projects from inception through design, construction, and contract completion, under the direction of the Resident Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Issues, reviews, and approves or rejects project submittals/permits.
- Reviews and updates forms and documentation procedures regarding construction activities and pay quantities.
- Inspects and assures projects/facilities are completed according to plans, specifications, design criteria, and budgetary constraints.
- Compiles and submits engineering recommendations and summaries for designing various projects/facilities with varying levels of complexity.
- Conducts extensive research of existing and evolving technologies.
- Provides technical guidance, advice, and oversight.
- Works in direct contact with contractors and subcontractors daily in the management of projects under construction.
- Deals with landowners, traveling public, local, county, state, and federal government entities in the same context.
- Performs field inspections, laboratory testing, materials analysis, and quality control.
- Develops engineering models, conducts studies, makes cost estimates, and submits reports, summaries, and other required documentation.
- Reviews and evaluates the work of assigned engineering technicians.
- Trains other personnel in engineering and surveying, and trains personnel on proper fieldwork documentation techniques.
- Coordinates with the contractor, other agencies, and the public when a project impacts them.
- Oversees moderate to major construction projects by documenting pay quantities, directing the work schedule of subordinates, and working with a contractor for quality control.
- Safeguards materials sampling and testing are performed properly; audits material summaries for QA/QC purposes.
- Prepares water agreements, materials agreements, and other necessary agreements.
Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering).
- Have 0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I.
- Hold an Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) License.
