Engineer I - Mechanical

About the role

You will manage and oversee design, development, procurement, ship integration, test, repair, and fleet support activities for components associated with fast-attack submarine classes.

Responsibilities

• Perform component analysis (impacts to safety, cost, schedule, performance, operations, and maintenance).
• Handle arrangement integration and component development to meet new or evolving specifications.
• Interface frequently with multiple Electric Boat engineering and support disciplines, vendors, Newport News Shipbuilding, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), shipyard personnel (trades), and Ship’s Force (active-duty Navy).

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, marine, or equivalent engineering field.
• 0-1 years of post-graduate engineering experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in mechanical, marine, or an equivalent engineering field (preferred).
• Experience working on marine propulsion systems and/or familiarity with engineering principles associated with rotating machinery (preferred).
• Experience coordinating with multiple customers (internal and external to the organization) (preferred).
• Experience in an industrial/construction environment (preferred).
• Project management experience (preferred).
• CAD knowledge, including CATIA and/or NX (preferred).

• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented, highly motivated, and able to work independently or collaboratively in an engineering environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures.
