Engineer I/II/III (Measurement Engineering)

About the role

The Measurement Engineer is responsible for ensuring accurate measurement and accounting of natural gas stations throughout a utility's distribution and transmission systems. This role involves designing, installing, maintaining, and calibrating metering equipment such as pressure regulation equipment, actuated valves, automation and SCADA equipment, odorization equipment, flow meters, pressure and temperature instruments, and gas chromatographs. The engineer analyzes data to ensure billing accuracy, supports regulatory compliance, and optimizes system performance. They also troubleshoot measurement issues, lead system upgrades, and collaborate with operations, field technicians, and regulatory bodies to ensure reliable and precise gas measurement across the network.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Provides the engineering expertise necessary to support intermediate projects that are generally conventional in nature
• Interacts with and provides technical support consistent with the application of well-established standards to company personnel
• Counsels and trains other engineers and technicians
• Conducts or participates in studies of intermediate size that evaluate performance, cost, and scheduling criteria of a limited number of alternatives
• Applies routine engineering techniques, practices, and procedures in support of operational areas
• Provides technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and company personnel, as required by specific assignments/projects
• Communicates project proposals, status updates, recommendations, and evaluations to engineering and non-engineering individuals and groups
• Represents the company's interests in intermediate engineering matters
• Participates in the formulation of Company and industry standards

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a college/university accredited by ABET
• A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Engineer I: 0 years of experience. Must hold or obtain within 3 months of hire a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university and must submit unofficial transcripts. Preferred: A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
• Engineer II: 2 years of engineering experience or 1 year with a Master's degree in Engineering. Required: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)
• Engineer III: 5 years of engineering experience or 3 years with a Master's degree in Engineering. Required: Professional Engineer (PE)

Preferences

• Experience sizing natural gas meters, odorizers and regulators
• Experience with SCADA
• Experience specifying gas chromatographs
• Construction or utility related work experience in the natural gas industry
