About the role

The Engineer I is responsible for maintaining the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the Salishan Coastal Lodge hotel. This position ensures guests have a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable stay by promptly addressing maintenance issues.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  • Resolve guest complaints to over-the-moon satisfaction.
  • Follow Hotel policies with lost and found items.
  • Adhere to Hotel requirements for guest and team member accidents or injuries and in emergency situations.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and finish work in the hotel.
  • Prioritize work orders through urgent requests and establish hotel area down times to minimize inconveniencing guests.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of projects.
  • Assist in checking electrical systems and make minor repairs/replacement orders.
  • Assist in checking and making routine repairs and assist with major repairs of all hotel equipment.
  • Refurbish furniture and fixtures within guest rooms and paint/finish furniture and fixtures, if needed.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and system failures, promptly resolving issues to minimize guest inconvenience and downtime.
  • Aid in preventive maintenance program to ensure the reliability and longevity of all equipment and systems.
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to emergency situations, such as power outages, leaks, floods, and fire alarms.
  • Provide timely and courteous support to guests who report maintenance issues in their rooms or public areas.
  • Address their concerns efficiently to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts required for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and support the overall hotel operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols, including those related to fire prevention, electrical safety, and hazardous materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in OSHA/Safety Programs, as needed/required.
  • Inspect, plan, and ensure that all materials and equipment are in complete readiness for service.
  • Maintain knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.

Requirements

  • United States citizen or possess a valid work permit.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English. Fluency in other languages is beneficial.
  • Able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with urgency and empathy.
  • Outstanding coordination and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Professional in appearance and demeanor.
  • Able to learn, understand, and work within POS, PMS, CRM, and other Hospitality-specific software systems.
  • Able to deal effectively and interact well with guests, vendors, and team members.
  • Able to resolve problems and/or conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a maintenance capacity required.
  • Previous experience working with heavy machinery and tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of swimming pools and chemicals preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of repairing and replacing: electrical, plumbing systems, painting, HVAC equipment, refrigeration, kitchen equipment and general property maintenance.

Working Conditions

  • Able to stand and move freely about the property for the majority of the shift.
  • Able to lift, carry, push, pull 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently, and squeezing & overhead reaching occasionally.
  • Able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, walk on uneven surfaces on a frequent basis.
  • Able to frequently handle objects and equipment to maintain the property.
  • Able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
  • Able to climb stairs occasionally, both indoors and outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
  • Able to work in variable room temperatures.
  • Able to work with loud noises.
  • Good vision, either natural or with corrective lenses.

Pay

$18 per hour with benefits.
