Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
- Travel to domestic and international job sites as required (up to 70% travel) by land and/or air for extended durations.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the combustion tuning process and theory.
- Apply expert knowledge of combustion dynamics to identify and address combustion instabilities, pressure fluctuations, and dynamic behavior during commissioning and tuning.
- Independently perform combustion tuning on Mitsubishi J class gas turbines, including advanced procedures such as load overshoot mitigation, Fuel Gas Temperature (FGT) tuning, ignition tuning, etc.
- Utilize tuning tools and software such as VB tuning programs and the Combustion Adjustment Support System (CASS) system to perform data acquisition, diagnostics, and tuning adjustments.
- Support commissioning activities, including startup, operational verification, and troubleshooting of gas turbine control systems.
- Verify all aspects of gas turbine control systems, including slot assignments, signal output, transmitter functionality, failsafe logic, control loop operation, HMI displays, and overall system readiness.
- Develop, implement, and troubleshoot DCS logic in support of commissioning and tuning activities.
- Perform instrument loop checks, calculate operational setpoints, and verify control logic to ensure compliance with system specifications and performance standards.
- Prepare and submit clear, accurate, and timely technical reports documenting site conditions, actions taken, tuning results, and recommendations for further improvement.
- Ensure completion of all administrative and reporting requirements related to combustion tuning activities, including both internal documentation and customer-facing deliverables.
- Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions in response to operational issues encountered during startup and commissioning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a four-year college or university plus three (3) years of experience; or at least five (5) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and procedures.
- Proficiency in preparing reports, business correspondence, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in database management, project management tools, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
