About the role

This is a responsible engineering technical position involving the review of plans for water main and sanitary sewer installations, field location of water and sewer utilities, and coordination with contractors and other Town departments. The role includes construction inspection, water main and sanitary sewer main testing, and making standard engineering technical decisions related to water and sewer utility systems construction.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans for water main and sanitary sewer installations and existing installation files.
  • Locate water and sewer utilities in the field.
  • Meet with contractors, Town departments, divisions, and staff to coordinate projects and address conflicts.
  • Perform construction inspection and testing of water main and sanitary sewer mains.
  • Make engineering technical decisions related to water and sewer construction activities.
  • Take and record accurate field measurements and review development plans for water and sewer installation acceptability.
  • Assist with and design water main and sanitary sewer pipelines, capital, and related construction projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical operations in support of Engineering Section projects.
  • Assist in developing probable construction cost estimates.
  • Create and maintain engineering field records for existing and replacement water main and sanitary sewer installations.
  • Prepare for field work by locating files, drawings, and coordinating with Water and Sewer Divisions operations staff.
  • Maintain water and sewer engineering records and data related to pipeline inventories, water production, reservoir levels, and precipitation.
  • Review development submissions and "as-built" drawings to determine sanitary sewer and water main availability, capacity, and installation acceptability.
  • Meet with Town departments, engineers, contractors, developers, and the public regarding installations, complaints, or utility conflicts.
  • Prepare necessary reports.
  • Schedule, assign, and oversee work of staff employees as required.
  • Participate in the review of Planning and Zoning Commission submissions related to water and sewer infrastructure.
