About the Role

Intertek is seeking an Engineer-HAZLOC to join our Electrical team in Plano, Texas. This role focuses on product safety evaluation for Hazardous (Classified) Locations. The position requires travel up to 70% of the time.

Intertek's Electrical business line leverages over 100 years of product testing expertise to help clients meet safety, performance, environmental, and quality requirements across industries such as Medical, Lighting, Renewable Energy, HVACR, Appliances & Electronics, Hazardous Locations, Industrial Equipment, Life Safety & Security, IT & Telecom Equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test).
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards.
  • Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
  • Develop, set up, and follow established test plans.
  • Compile test results during construction review and testing.
  • Compile data and product description and type final report using established report shell.
  • Submit report to reviewer for final approval.
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.
  • Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
  • Identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments within policy guidelines.
  • Perform other work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical preferred).
  • No experience required; new graduates considered.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering certificate / EIT preferred.
  • Prior project management experience.
  • Knowledge of Class/Division scheme, NEC Article 500, 60079 series of standards, and various Ex protections.
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards (e.g., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC).
  • Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools.
  • Microsoft Office expertise.
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters.
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate, up to 75%.
  • Physical dexterity/mobility to travel via car, airplane, and perform all functions inherent to the position.
