Engineer - Engineer Prin (TFS T-Line Asset Engineer)

This is an onsite position and can be filled anywhere in APCO/KYPCO.

About the Role

Responsible for performing complex engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. Based on education, experience, and interview, this opportunity will be filled at any title in the Engineer job family, with minimum requirements written at the lowest grade and increased expectations at higher grades.

Responsibilities

• Technical Expertise: Exhibits journey-level proficiency plus advanced knowledge to serve as a leader within the assigned organization. Stays abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment. Analyzes interrelationships between systems and component equipment. Interprets codes and regulations and develops standards relevant to the area of assignment.
• Leadership & Guidance: Provides guidance and exercises judgment in directing other engineers. Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities within the team, department, or external entities. Ensures compliance with company policies, practices, standards, and external regulations. Promotes engineering professionalism and coordinates training sessions.
• Planning & Organization: Participates in developing plans by establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements. Coordinates project cost projections and uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning. Initiates corrective actions when objectives are not met.
• Problem Solving & Initiative: Identifies, clarifies, and resolves routine to complex problems, sometimes involving conflicting or inadequate data. Divides problems into component steps and consistently seeks new opportunities and approaches.
• Communication: Coordinates work efficiently among engineers. Develops, reviews, or prepares reports on complex technical subjects for management, professional societies, or regulatory bodies. Leads and facilitates meetings effectively.
• Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates collaborative and consensus-building skills. Functions as a team leader and member, networking across disciplines inside and outside the organization to achieve goals.
• Decision Making: Makes decisions affecting plans and goals based on uncertain input and outcomes. Uses diverse approaches in the absence of precedents and assesses risks to act accordingly. Decisions may impact department operations or major projects.
• Business Awareness: Exhibits awareness of AEP’s competitive position and how decisions impact the organizational unit. Manages project budgets using cost management techniques and understands the impact on expenses and revenues. Demonstrates awareness of profit incentives and customer growth strategies.

Requirements

• Engineer (Grade 07):
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with typically four or more years of related engineering experience.
  • Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may qualify for entry at Grade 06.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred (confirmation required for PEs obtained in Puerto Rico to align with NCEES standards).
  • Salary Range: $87,633 – $106,353.
• Engineer Sr. (Grade 08):
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with typically six or more years of related engineering experience or four years of experience with a Master’s or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is required unless waived by the organization’s EVP (confirmation required for PEs obtained in Puerto Rico).
  • Acceptable alternatives:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a PE license, or
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s program.
  • Salary Range: $98,993 – $124,940.
• Engineer Prin. (Grade 09):
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with typically eight or more years of related engineering experience, or six years of experience with a Master’s or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred unless waived by the organization’s EVP (confirmation preferred for PEs obtained in Puerto Rico).
  • Acceptable alternative: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s program.
  • Salary Range: $116,255 – $151,132.

ABET: Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a non-ABET-accredited program.

Schedule

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary Work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Primarily involves sitting, with occasional walking or standing for brief periods.
