Engineer, Django/Python (Contractor)

About the role
Web development has been our bread and butter since our early days with Adobe Flash (RIP). We’ve stayed on the cutting edge, evolving with the industry. Our Web Team leads projects involving Content Management Systems (CMS) concept design, API integration, microservice creation, development testing, and full site launches. As a Django/Python Engineer, you’ll focus on the Django backend system, API integration, and testing—working on complex websites and applications with minimal oversight. We value self-driven problem-solvers who bring curiosity, tenacity, and resourcefulness to design and execute technology solutions with thoughtfulness and quality.
Responsibilities
- Use server-side languages such as Django and Python to develop websites, web applications, and Content Management Systems (CMS)
- Connect to third-party APIs using REST implementations
- Develop requirements and planning documentation
- Maintain well-documented, reusable, and transferrable code
- Maintain working knowledge of Content Management in Django
- Create and manage DigitalOcean Droplet instances
- Frequently commit code repositories (with release notes) within BitBucket
- Proactively perform cross-browser testing and optimizations
- Track hours, tasks, and milestones in project management software
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 2-4 years of professional development experience
- Expert knowledge of PHP, C#, and/or Python
- Expert knowledge of at least one major frontend framework (i.e., React, Vue)
- Expert knowledge of client-side optimization techniques
- Expert understanding of the latest and legacy browser capabilities, including mobile
- Fluent understanding of object-oriented programming techniques
- Functional knowledge of content management and eCommerce solutions such as Django
- Strong experience with version control systems (i.e., BitBucket)
- Functional knowledge of Linux, Nginx, and Apache
- Familiarity with UNIX terminal commands
- Knowledge of Docker framework; DigitalOcean droplets knowledge is a bonus
- Previous experience as a web developer
- Tough skin and excellent time management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills with both teams and clients
- Consistent attendance is required
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid work permit to work in the U.S.
- Ability to work from our Winter Park, FL office (relocation services may apply)
