Engineer/Consultant IV
Strategy Engineering & Consulting, LLC is a leader in providing project management, engineering, drafting/design, procurement, inspection, construction management, technical writing, and computerized maintenance management systems for onshore and offshore oil and gas projects.
About the role
This is a fast-paced position in which the senior engineer will work with multiple simultaneous project teams for onshore and offshore facilities. The senior electrical engineer is expected to have a functional working knowledge of common industry standards and be able to independently complete tasks which meet the needs of the customer specifications, scope of work, and safety regulations in coordination with the project teams. Additionally, this role is expected to provide backup to engineering management tasks, including leadership on project teams, mentorship, and proposal work.
Responsibilities
- Independently perform common electrical engineering design and analysis for low and medium voltage power distribution systems, including grounding & lightning protection systems, area classification, lighting & small power systems, cable sizing, raceway design, cable routing, equipment layout, and Bill of Materials.
- Specify and design medium and high voltage power distribution and protection systems including outdoor substations, metal-clad switchgear, air-insulated switchyards, overhead distribution lines, risers, and underground cable systems.
- Utilize ETAP to perform a wide range of power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, motor starting, arc flash hazard analysis, protective device coordination, grounding system (step and touch potential) analysis, underground cable ampacity/thermal studies, and renewable energy projects AC/DC loss evaluations.
- Perform design checks and provide mentorship to other electrical engineers.
- Develop and support project cost estimates, equipment budgets, and engineering deliverables for a variety of projects, including renewable energy, power generation, midstream, and downstream energy and chemical facilities.
- Develop communication, protection, and control system architectures for power generation, microgrid, and medium-voltage distribution systems using IEC 61850, GOOSE messaging, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC-UA, and fiber-optic Ethernet networks.
- Work with large-scale power generation systems, including generator paralleling, synchronization, load sharing, load shedding, utility interconnection, islanding, black-start capability, plant-wide control philosophies, and grid compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Professional Engineering License is required.
- 15+ years of experience in electrical design & engineering, preferably in mid-to-large-scale EPC projects.
- Experience with high voltage distribution, transmission, and substations is preferred but not required.
- Experience with renewable energy systems, including solar power system design, plant layout, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly preferred but not required.
- Proficient in developing electrical load lists, MV and LV one-line diagrams, schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules.
- Experience with Electrical Buildings/Power Control Room, Dry type and Liquid Filled Transformers, VFDs, Soft Starters, MV & LV Switchgear & MCCs, UPS, Battery & Chargers, etc.
- Experience with specifications, data sheets, Request for Quote/Purchase, Technical Bid Evaluation, and Vendor Data Review & Approval.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and interpret electrical designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
- High proficiency with common Office computer software, including PDF markup tools.
- Thorough knowledge of applications of electrical codes and standards (IEEE, NEC, NFPA, API, NEMA, OSHA, etc.).
- Experience with harmonic and transient analysis in ETAP is highly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
