Engineer
About the role
The Structural Engineer plays a key role in delivering structural engineering design and analysis for wireless communication and telecommunications infrastructure projects. This position ensures the structural integrity and compliance of new and existing building and non-building structures, as well as non-structural components. The Engineer supports the full project lifecycle—from concept and design through deployment and quality assurance—by collaborating with clients, contractors, project design teams, and regulatory authorities. Responsibilities include preparing detailed reports, calculations, and technical analyses, and providing quality control oversight of work performed by other engineers. This role contributes directly to the safety, reliability, and innovation of tower and telecommunications network projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive structural and mount analysis and design for new and existing building structures, non-building structures (e.g., towers, monopoles), and non-structural equipment, including anchorage and foundation elements.
- Develop and design modifications for tower reinforcements, extensions, and foundations to ensure compliance with structural standards and client specifications.
- Evaluate engineering alternatives and recommend solutions that balance safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, calculations, and documentation that communicate design assumptions, methods, and results.
- Conduct and/or review Quality Assurance–Quality Control (QA/QC) checks on structural analyses, drawings, and engineering deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and code compliance.
- Support construction administration activities, including review of shop drawings, RFIs, and technical submittals.
- Collaborate with A&E Project Managers, Drafters, Senior Engineers, Clients, Contractors, Building Officials, and external consultants to align structural design requirements and project objectives.
- Serve as a technical resource for internal teams and external stakeholders, providing timely responses to structure-related inquiries.
- Coordinate with building officials and jurisdiction authorities to demonstrate code compliance and secure necessary permits and approvals.
- Conduct site visits and field assessments to verify existing conditions and support design feasibility.
- Prepare detailed field reports documenting observations, measurements, and engineering recommendations.
- Ensure all work adheres to federal, state, local, and company safety standards, policies, and engineering codes of practice.
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, standardization, and process quality within the engineering team.
- Support mentoring and knowledge-sharing efforts to foster technical development within the team.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License with the ability to obtain multi-state licensure as required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in structural engineering design and analysis.
- Demonstrated experience developing construction documents and performing Mount Analyses and Structural Assessments for monopoles, towers, tanks, and buildings.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering design principles across multiple materials (steel, concrete, wood, and masonry) and relevant design codes and standards (IBC, TIA-222, ASCE, etc.).
- Proficiency with common structural engineering software such as tnxTower, RISA 3D, Mathcad, and Enercalc.
- Solid understanding of construction practices and principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Excellent technical writing skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise documentation and engineering reports.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
- Familiarity with telecom carrier standards and permitting processes, particularly those governing wireless infrastructure and site development.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar drafting and modeling software used in structural and telecommunications design.
- Experience applying international telecom standards, including Eurocode, LATAM codes, or other regional frameworks, ensuring global compliance and consistency.
- Proficiency in Spanish, enabling effective communication and collaboration across international markets.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
This role involves a balanced combination of office-based work and field assignments. Office work primarily includes computer-based structural analysis, preparation of technical reports, and virtual collaboration with project teams and clients across multiple locations. Field work may involve site visits to telecommunications installations such as towers, rooftops, and monopoles, requiring work in outdoor environments, varying weather conditions, and navigating uneven terrain or elevated structures in compliance with safety standards. Up to 10% travel (domestic and international) may be required to conduct site inspections, attend client meetings, or provide construction and engineering support. The incumbent must be able to travel on short notice and effectively manage responsibilities across multiple time zones.
