About the Role

This is an entry-level engineering position responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing engineering work activities and projects. The role involves applying engineering knowledge to accomplish assigned objectives in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic manner.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise: Possesses entry-level knowledge and experience in applying engineering theory to solve well-defined problems or provide analysis, with guidance from higher-level engineers. Assists in handling portions of more complex problems and analyses. Exhibits fundamental understanding of standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the area of assignment. Gains familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems, and business processes.
  • Leadership & Guidance: Coordinates work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks. Demonstrates working knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures, with activities monitored by higher-level employees. Performs assigned tasks as coached by higher-level engineers.
  • Planning & Organization: Provides input to routine project planning documents, including scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning activities. Monitors project status and recommends actions. Prepares cost estimates using established standards. Develops understanding of workflow for routine engineering projects.
  • Problem Solving & Initiative: Actively seeks information and understanding of engineering problems and solution techniques. Applies basic techniques to resolve routine technical problems. Uses initiative to present new ideas and approaches.
  • Communication: Assists in preparing reports and technical papers. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, and presents ideas clearly. Listens to and understands instructions, requesting clarification as needed.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Networks with peers to share information and encourage cooperation. Understands the perspectives of others and develops effective team relationships. Relates to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner.
  • Decision Making: Knows authorized decision-making scope and develops skills under guidance. Makes routine decisions subject to review and contributes to team decision-making.
  • Business Awareness: Demonstrates customer-focused attitude to satisfy internal and external stakeholders. Applies economic analysis techniques in problem-solving. Pursues environmentally responsible and cost-effective solutions. Encouraged to participate in professional and business organizations. Develops understanding of departmental roles and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET (or equivalent).
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
  • Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may qualify if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a non-ABET-accredited program.

Pay

Compensation Grade: SP20-006

Compensation Range: $74,551.00 - $151,132.50

Schedule

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary Work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods.
