Engineer Apprentice

About the role
The Engineer Apprentice supports experienced Engineers in maintenance, repair, adjustments, and fabrication/installation work for heating, cooling, ventilation, energy management systems, and related equipment. This role maintains boiler rooms, machine rooms, air handling units, building equipment, and chilled and condenser water plant systems, while providing general maintenance services across the hotel. The position supplements and assists other maintenance staff as needed, performs work in accordance with hotel standards, and communicates work-order and project status to relevant staff.
Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and verify proper operation of building systems and equipment under direct supervision of a licensed Engineer.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-maintained boiler room, machine rooms, air handling units, and building equipment.
- Perform general facilities-related duties and assist other maintenance staff as needed.
- Wear and/or use appropriate safety equipment and operate the facility in accordance with all applicable government and regulatory requirements.
- Use computers to enter and access job-related information.
- Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform related job duties as assigned, including occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps.
Physical aspects of the position include constant standing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling throughout the shift.
Requirements
- Must be a current member of the International Union of Operating Engineers – Local 399 Engineer Apprenticeship program.
- Must be enrolled in the apprenticeship program through IUOE Local 399 and maintain good standing throughout employment.
- Completion of a job-related training program or associate’s degree preferred.
- Ability to work rotating shifts (morning, afternoon, mid-shift, overnight) and varying schedules based on business needs.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to anticipate and focus on guest needs while remaining professional, welcoming, and calm.
- Detailed-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Highly responsible, reliable, and able to work cohesively with colleagues as part of a team with minimal supervision.
