Engineer 2 - Supply Chain

Nordstrom is seeking an Engineer 2 to join our Merchandising, Inventory, Supply Chain, Shared Services, and Platform Technology (MISC) team. This role sits within the Supply Chain organization and supports the integration layer between the WMS (Warehouse Management System) and the physical Material Handling Equipment (MHE). This role is hybrid in Seattle, WA, requiring in-office presence at the Nordstrom corporate headquarters a minimum of 4 days per week.

Design and develop innovative solutions to drive Nordstrom’s business. Work on complex routing, shortest path, and optimization problems within a high-performing team. Contribute to leading-edge processes such as continuous integration, continuous delivery, cloud migration, and test-driven development.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, consistent, and elegant code to create scalable and reliable systems.
• Contribute to peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Participate in the design and development process as part of a SCRUM team.
• Transition between application development and support to ensure timely and efficient issue resolution.
• Drive build and release plans, including deployment to production environments.
• Assist the Software Development Manager with planning, analysis, and definition of high-level software strategies.
• Stay current with industry trends and apply them to architectural needs.
• Ensure corporate policies and industry best practices are followed in developed applications.
• Collaborate with business, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver enhancements and bug fixes for production systems.
• Build metrics into systems and provide visibility on uptime and performance via real-time alerting, reporting, and dashboards.
• Work with diverse, collaborative, cross-functional teams.
• Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience analyzing, designing, coding, testing, installing, and maintaining complex software programs.
• Knowledge of Java and the Java Springboot framework; familiarity with Python, React, JavaScript, or C# is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling and experience leveraging agents to accelerate design, coding, and testing workflows.
• Strong desire to automate processes and systems.
• Experience with backend databases (preferably Spanner), NoSQL, or Postgres.
• Experience with RESTful architecture and microservices.
• Experience with Amazon AWS or GCP.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) and modern development practices using Scrum, Kanban, or other agile methodologies.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and testing tools.
• Experience with messaging middleware (Kafka, SQS).
• Experience writing and consuming services using REST, SOAP, XML, JSON, or similar technologies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to persuade, inspire, and motivate others.

Pay

$121,500.00 - $188,500.00 annual.
