Engine Validation Senior Engineer

Responsible for building and executing the engine validation plan for a major engine program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Engine DVP&R document for system level (engine dynamometer) testing
  • Maintain build records of each engine and arrange disposition or storage as needed
  • Work with Engine Build team to arrange for the build and delivery of Engine Assemblies to dyno cells for design verification (DV) testing and Mule level vehicle builds
  • Lead the Maintenance, Development, and Improvement of Test Procedures, Design Validation Plans (“DV”), and Process Validation plans (“PV”) for Internal Combustion Engines
  • Lead development and execution of DV and PV tests based on performance requirements, core DVP, DFMEA, field issues/design issues, and best practices
  • Provide technical expertise in investigation of validation issues, root cause analysis, mitigation, and corrective action plans
  • Review and publish test results to the greater team
  • Conduct tests, recreate failure modes identified during validation testing or warranty claims
  • Log Incident Reports for each issue to ensure engineering team drives issues to closure; create issues in S2IRIUS system where appropriate
  • Report out regularly to the Chief Engineer organization on the status and progress of testing (weekly until validation plan is completed and signed off by the Chief Engineer)
  • Update the Test Timing Plan and the DVP&R document at least weekly to ensure they remain current
  • Organize post-test analysis and teardown activity with the project team to identify any issues or concerns
  • Review reports with the Chief Engineer and file them in PDS
  • Provide instructions for disposition, re-use, or recycling of test properties
  • Complete a final review when all validation activity is complete to ensure all records are properly collected and stored

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent
  • 5 years minimum experience in Internal Combustion Engine component design, development, and/or validation
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in engine validation or component or system validation
  • Understanding of automotive processes such as DFMEA and DVP&R
  • Familiarity with automotive engine design, components, and testing
  • Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience
  • Critical character traits: Organized, Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree with emphasis in engine development, control systems, or calibration
  • Understanding of CAN communication
  • Working experience in creation and execution of validation plans for engines and engine components
  • 7 years or more in design, development, and/or validation of engines
  • Experience with engine teardowns and rebuilds
