About the role
We are hiring Engine Test Technicians to work at the Engine Dyno lab in Dearborn, MI. This position is ideal for individuals with automotive knowledge and experience, either professionally or as a hobby, who have a passion for automotive and an enthusiasm to learn automotive testing from an industry leader. This is a day shift position (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM).
Responsibilities
- Conduct a wide variety of non-procedural gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer testing.
- Support development, durability, and performance testing in an engine dynamometer facility.
- Collect, review, and validate data for accuracy and completeness; make recommendations to engineering.
- Fabricate basic fixtures.
- Interface with Technologists, Product Engineers, and Supervisors on updates/new test procedures, equipment, and methods.
- Verify the calibration and maintenance of test equipment and test systems.
- Install engines on dynamometer, hook up instrumentation, diagnose/troubleshoot problems, conduct tests, change engine parts if necessary, and remove engine and instrumentation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma.
- Good interpersonal, computer, oral, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of engines and powertrain.
- Able to lift 50 lbs, including engine parts such as intakes, exhaust parts, heads, drive shafts, and related accessories (35% of the time).
- Safety compliance: wear safety glasses, slip-resistant hardened-toe shoes, gloves, long pants, and short-sleeve shirts (100% of the time).
- Physical requirements: Sitting (50%), Standing (50%), Bending (25%), Stooping (25%).
- Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, health performance evaluation, and background check.
- Must demonstrate professional behavior and maintain a positive work atmosphere.
- Clear, concise, and accurate verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and not impose a safety risk.
- Dependable personal transportation to the work site is required.
Qualifications
Desired:
- Working toward an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology or a related field, or equivalent testing experience in gasoline and diesel engine testing.
- Experience in engines/powertrain dynamometer testing or other similar testing techniques.
Work Environment
- Inside 100% of the time, primarily in an engine test cell.
- Exposure to hot temperatures generated by engines and cold start tests (engines can be soaked to -20°F, 50% of the time).
- Hazardous conditions: rotating equipment, engines, hot exhaust, and trip hazards (100% of the time).
- High noise levels from running engines; employees are not exposed to engine speeds over idle while in the cell.
Equipment and Tools
- Office equipment: Computers, analyzers (70% of the time).
- Tools: Basic hand tools, including hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchets, sockets, and other related repair tools (30% of the time).
Schedule
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are critical.
- Must have flexibility to cover weekend testing requirements as needed.
- Overtime may be required to cover other shifts.
