About the role

We are hiring Engine Test Technicians to work at the Engine Dyno lab in Dearborn, MI. This position is ideal for those with automotive knowledge and experience, either professionally or as a hobby. We seek individuals with a passion for automotive and enthusiasm to learn testing from an industry leader. This role is for the afternoon shift: 3 PM – 11:30 PM and includes a $1,000 signing bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a wide variety of non-procedural gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer testing.
  • Support development, durability, and performance testing in an engine dynamometer facility.
  • Collect, review, and validate data for accuracy and completeness; make recommendations to engineering.
  • Fabricate basic fixtures.
  • Interface with Technologists, Product Engineers, and Supervisors on updates/new test procedures, equipment, and methods.
  • Verify calibration and maintenance of test equipment and systems.
  • Install engines on dynamometer, hook up instrumentation, diagnose/troubleshoot problems, conduct tests, change engine parts if necessary, and remove engine and instrumentation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Good interpersonal, computer, oral, and written skills.
  • Knowledge of engines and powertrain.
  • Desired: Working toward an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology or related field, or equivalent testing experience in gasoline and diesel engine testing.
  • Experience in engines/powertrain dynamometer testing or similar techniques preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting: Able to lift 50 lbs (e.g., engine parts such as intakes, exhaust parts, heads, drive shafts, and related accessories), 35% of the time.
  • Special clothing/equipment: Safety glasses, slip-resistant hardened-toe shoes, gloves, long pants, short-sleeve shirts, 100% of the time.
  • Unusual physical requirements: Sitting (50%), standing (50%), bending (25%), stooping (25%). Job requires manual labor.
  • High noise level: Exposure to engine noise while running in the test cell; employees are not exposed to engine speeds over idle while in the cell.
  • Extreme temperatures: Hot temperatures generated by engines; cold start tests with engines soaked to -20°F, 50% of the time.
  • Hazardous conditions: Rotating equipment, engines, hot exhaust, trip hazards, 100% of the time.

Work Environment

  • Equipment and Machines: Computers, analyzers (70%); basic hand tools (e.g., hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchets, sockets), 30%.
  • Attendance: 8 hours per day, Monday–Friday. Flexibility to cover other shifts or weekends as needed. Regular attendance and punctuality are critical.

Other Essential Functions

  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management, and co-workers.
  • Clear, concise, and accurate English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and not impose a safety risk.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating professionally.
  • Dependable personal transportation to the work site is required.
