Engine Build Internship - Fall 2026
About the role

Responsibilities
- Assist with the assembly, disassembly, inspection, and maintenance of prototype rotary engines and related subsystems
- Support engine build activities, including fitting components, measuring critical dimensions, and verifying assembly quality
- Perform cleaning, preparation, and organization of engine components and hardware
- Absorb and document observations during troubleshooting efforts and help diagnose mechanical issues
- Operate hand tools, power tools, torque tools, measuring equipment, and other shop equipment under supervision
- Maintain accurate build records, assembly documentation, and parts tracking information
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and workshop environment
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and test teams to support ongoing development programs
Requirements
- Coursework, technical training, or hands-on experience in automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace, or related disciplines
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in engines, powertrains, or rotating machinery
- Experience using hand tools, torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation
- Familiarity with shop practices, mechanical assemblies, and basic machining concepts
- Experience working on personal vehicle projects, racing teams, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, robotics teams, aviation maintenance, engine rebuilds, or similar hands-on projects is highly desirable
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to troubleshoot problems methodically and follow established procedures
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn and contribute in a dynamic R&D environment
Qualifications
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university and have completed at least one year of full-time study.
