ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Manage portfolios with significant annual value by executing short-term and long-term physical trading across multiple market areas, while ensuring appropriate scheduling of energy commodities.
- Responsible for the development of short-term and long-term physical energy, natural gas, and transmission positions.
- Responsible for the implementation of short-term optimization of resources, ancillary services, and imbalance.
- Negotiate and implement innovative plans for the acquisition or sale of power, natural gas, and transmission.
- Implement short-term and long-term plans to optimize the operations and positions.
- Monitor and understand with the power and natural gas industries regarding production, transmission, economics, and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for BEPC and DGC physical hedging activities, and coordinates, implements, and administers these hedging activities pursuant to the Cooperative’s risk management criteria.
- Develop and maintain relationships with counterparties, control area operations, pipelines and all divisions within Basin Electric Power Cooperative and Subsidiaries.
- Understand market trends, pricing structures, supply-demand dynamics, regulatory developments, and key risk factors, such as transmission constraints, generation outages, and competitive pressures, to guide trading and origination strategies.
- Collaborate with risk and quantitative teams to proactively monitor and mitigate financial, operational, and market risks, ensuring compliance with risk limits.
- Deliver updates to senior leadership on market developments, risk exposures, and key performance indicators.
- Collaborate closely with quantitative analytics and operations teams to support commercial initiatives and ensure smooth execution of trading and origination activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, energy management or related discipline and 3 years of physical trading or related energy market experience;
- A related associate’s degree and 5 years of physical trading or related energy market experience;
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 7 years of physical trading or related energy market experience.
- Travel up to 10% of the time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A high-level understanding of the electrical power supply industry and/or natural gas industry, generation operations, marketing, trading, and power and/or natural gas scheduling.
- A high-level knowledge of the power and natural gas markets.
- Proven success developing or executing trading strategies across multiple market areas.
- Experience representing the organization in external market or regulatory forums.

- Proficient with Energy Trading systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
