Energy Conservation Research and Data Intern
About the role
E Source helps utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape. We are seeking a Data Analyst Intern to join our Data Analyst team for energy solutions. The role offers hands-on experience with utility-sector data, learning how to turn research into actionable guidance.
Responsibilities
- Update and populate E Source data tools with thorough, accurate information after receiving training.
- Support research requests from utility clients and internal teams, including contributions to reports, articles, and webinars.
- Organize, evaluate, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data drawn from primary and secondary sources.
- Document analytical procedures and suggest improvements to data workflows.
- Collaborate with analysts and subject-matter experts to translate findings into clear written and visual summaries.
Requirements
- A current undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate, ideally pursuing a degree in an environmental, economic, energy, data, or related field.
- Naturally curious about utilities, energy efficiency, sustainability, or the broader energy industry.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to getting the data right.
- Solid research, critical-thinking, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and to explain what the data shows to a non-technical audience.
- Experience working well across teams, asking thoughtful questions, and following through on commitments.
Qualifications
- Coursework or project experience involving data entry, data manipulation, or basic analysis.
- Comfortable with SQL, Python, R, or similar tools for working with data.
- Experience using Excel, Power BI, or Tableau to summarize or visualize data.
- Prior exposure to the utility, energy, or sustainability sectors.
Skills

Benefits
This is a temporary, six-month position. You'll work up to 20 hours per week at a rate of $17.00 USD per hour. Exact dates and hours are flexible based on your schedule. This role will be 100% remote, with infrequent travel (generally 1-2 times per year).
