About the Role

This is a highly skilled position requiring advanced knowledge of boiler, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical distribution, and control system maintenance and operation. The role involves resolving repair issues independently with minimal supervision while utilizing exceptional customer service and communication skills. The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe working environment and support an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and operation of boilers, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical distribution, and control systems.
  • Resolve repair issues with little to no supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and follow technical instructions.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Conduct calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair of equipment.
  • Prioritize work assignments and manage time and materials efficiently.
  • Complete work assignments with high quality at the lowest cost to Mercy.
  • Teach or conduct learning sessions as needed.
  • Use computer software such as Outlook and Mercy’s work order system.

Requirements

  • General manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude.
  • High School diploma, equivalent, or 1 year of direct relevant experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License for all Mercy locations.
  • 3 to 5 years of commercial experience working with HVAC, boilers, and refrigeration equipment.
  • EPA Universal Certification as required by 40 CFR, Part 82, Subpart F (must achieve within 12 months of employment).

Licensure

  • For Mercy Arkansas Hospitals: High Pressure Boiler Operator’s License administered by Arkansas Dept. of Labor and Licensing (incumbents must have; new hires must obtain within 1 year).
  • For Mercy OKC Hospital: Class II Boiler Operator's License administered by Oklahoma City (incumbents must have; new hires must obtain within 1 year).
  • For Mercy OKC Hospital: Class II Boiler Operator's License administered by Oklahoma Dept. of Labor (incumbents must have; new hires must obtain within 1 year).
  • Class C Tank Operator Training and Certification for all Mercy locations with underground storage tanks (must achieve within 90 days of employment).

Skills

  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Numerical ability for calculations related to testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair.
  • Ability to prioritize work and conceptualize finished products.
  • Form perception for measuring and installing parts and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer software such as Outlook and Mercy’s work order system.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Spatial ability to understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints or specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School.
  • 5 or more years working in a facility maintenance position within a healthcare environment.
  • Boiler, HVAC, or Refrigeration licensure.
