Energy Center Operator I - FT, Evening, Weekends

About the Role

This is an entry-level position requiring basic knowledge of boiler, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical distribution, and control system maintenance and operation. The Energy Center Operator I will learn operations for HVAC and refrigeration systems, work practices, safety procedures, and become familiar with regulatory requirements for the equipment. This role provides an opportunity to learn proper use of basic tools and equipment necessary to maintain and troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration systems while ensuring a safe working environment and supporting an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate boiler, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical distribution, and control systems
• Learn and apply safety procedures and work practices
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems using basic tools and equipment
• Communicate effectively with customers and follow instructions
• Read and understand technical manuals
• Perform calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair of equipment
• Prioritize work assignments and manage time and materials efficiently
• Complete work assignments in a high-quality manner at the lowest cost to Mercy
• Understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints or specifications
• Achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exams prior to advancing to Energy Center Operator II
• Teach or conduct learning sessions as needed
• Utilize various computer software such as Outlook, TMS, and/or Nuvolo

Requirements

• High School diploma, equivalent, or 1 year of direct relevant experience
• Valid Driver's License for all Mercy locations
• General manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude
• Oral and written communication skills
• Verbal ability to read and understand technical manuals
• Numerical ability for calculations related to equipment testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair
• Spatial ability to understand blueprints and specifications

Certifications & Licensure

• Class C Tank Operator Training and Certification (required within 90 days of employment for locations with underground storage tanks)
• EPA Universal Certification as required by 40CFR, Part 82, Subpart F (required within 12 months of employment)
• For Mercy Arkansas Hospitals: High Pressure Boiler Operator’s License (administered by Arkansas Dept. of Labor and Licensing where boilers are installed; required prior to advancing to Energy Center Operator II)
• For Mercy OKC Hospital: Class II Boiler Operator's License (administered by Oklahoma City or Oklahoma Dept. of Labor where boilers are installed; required prior to advancing to Energy Center Operator II)

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School
• 1 or more years working as a maintenance technician in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting
• Boiler, HVAC, or Refrigeration licensure

Schedule
