Endoscopy Technician II

Job Summary

Aids the physician in performing various gastrointestinal diagnostic procedures. Trains and mentors lower-level technicians, educates patients, schedules procedures, and collaborates with other hospital departments.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Operates specialized equipment like endoscopes, monitors, and performs procedures such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and biopsies.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and troubleshoots issues.
• Communicates inventory needs to the manager and orders supplies.
• Disposes of broken equipment safely.
• Assists physicians with patient care, including drawing up and administering medications, CPR, and monitoring vital signs.
• Trains patients on their upcoming procedures and ensures proper consent forms are obtained.
• Coordinates patient scheduling and transports patients between departments.
• Participates in professional development and attends in-services.

Collaboration, Integration & Staff Management

• Operates and manages EKG and other monitoring equipment.
• Administers medications under supervision.
• Provides verbal and written education to patients.
• Notifies physicians of any significant changes or abnormalities during procedures or recovery.
• Ensures proper consent forms are obtained before procedures.

Metrics, Data & Quality Reporting

• Keeps accurate records of procedure charges, data sheets, specimen slips, medicines given, adverse reactions, and equipment sent for repair.
• Coordinates patient scheduling with other hospital departments.
• Trains new employees and visitors from other hospitals on Gastro-Intestinal Diagnostic Lab procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two years of Gastro-Intestinal Diagnostic Laboratory Technician experience.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Standing and walking frequently.
• Sitting occasionally.
• Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing).

Environmental Factors

• May require blood-borne pathogen exposure, bio-hazardous waste handling, chemical exposure, communicable disease risk, electrical hazards, physical labor, and travel.
• May involve working in various indoor/outdoor conditions, including hot/cold temperatures and potentially hazardous environments.
