About the role

Assists in safe, efficient endoscopic procedures used by physicians for diagnosis of adult patients. Assists in procedure rooms with patient care, obtaining specimens, cleaning, and turnaround of procedure rooms. Must be knowledgeable in high‑level disinfection practices and record keeping, proficient with endoscopic equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Cross‑trains to assist in procedures as needed. Participates in staff development and actively pursues professional and self‑development.

Responsibilities

• Accurately decontaminates and reprocesses endoscopic equipment and accessories (35%).
• Under the direction of an RN, assists in procedure rooms with patient care, obtaining specimens, and cleaning/turnaround of procedure rooms and pre‑ and post‑recovery areas (35%).
• Maintains cleanliness of all procedure rooms and reprocessing room (20%).
• Maintains inventory of endoscopy supplies, reprocessing supplies, and equipment (10%).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards; refers to department‑provided documentation for specific duties.
• Abides by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI); completes annual training, UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies on PHI use.

Requirements

• Education: High School Equivalent / GED (Required).
• Work Experience: Less than 1 year. Previous lab experience in CSP or endoscopy reprocessing (Preferred). Patient care experience (Preferred). Previous experience in endoscopy reprocessing or Central Sterile Processing (Preferred).
• Travel: Up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) — Required within 1 year.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) — Preferred.
• Certification in Scope Reprocessing — Required within 1 year.
• Successful completion of hospital‑based Endoscopy Orientation — Required.
