UAB St. Vincent’s GI Lab – Scope Reprocessing Room

Responsibilities

• Safely clean, perform high-level disinfection, test, dry, store, and track flexible endoscopes and related accessories in accordance with manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs), professional guidelines, and facility policies.
• Perform leak testing, manual cleaning, and operate automated endoscope reprocessors (AERs).
• Maintain accurate documentation and manage reprocessing equipment and supplies.
• Ensure patient safety through strict adherence to infection prevention standards.
• Support endoscopic procedures by preparing equipment, fielding, and managing specimens.
• Prepare patients for procedures by reviewing medical history, positioning patients, and cleaning/shaving/numbing testing sites as appropriate.
• Interpret, describe, and report test results; recognize recording errors and artifacts and react appropriately.
• Monitor patients prior to, during, and after procedures and promptly report any abnormal findings in patient condition.
• Prepare and maintain equipment, supplies, and lab area.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate’s degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
• BLS Provider certification obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
