About the role

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Senior-Level Endoscopy Technician. The Senior-Level Endoscopy Technician will provide advanced support during all endoscopic procedures, apply advanced support and training, and assist with orientation to all endoscopy technicians.

Responsibilities

1. Assists physician directly in procedures involving guidewire manipulation, stent placements, balloon dilations, stone retrieval, electrocautery, laser therapy including photodynamic therapy, endoscopic ultrasound, variceal and hemorrhoid banding, insertion of esophageal catheters, probes, naso and percutaneous gastric and jejunal tubes, polypectomies, fine needle aspiration, clipping of bleeding vessels, celiac plexus neurolysis, tumor obliteration, specimen processing, sphincterotomies and biliary manometry. 2. Proficiency level of an expert in advanced interventional endoscopy, i.e., ERCPs, EUS, Endoscopic hemostasis, and capsule endoscopy. 3. Assists physicians directly with obtaining various patient specimens such as biopsies for culture, pathology and viral studies, brush cytology, microbiology and pH specimens. Demonstrates proper handling of tissue samples and proficiency in obtaining, labeling and documenting each sample properly according to hospital and unit policy. 4. Sets up, maintains and troubleshoots all endoscopic equipment. Notifies unit leadership and Biomed of any problems as indicated. 5. Manually clean endoscopes to remove gross debris in preparation for reprocessing by Central Sterile Processing. Follow all infection prevention standards for cleaning and testing of scopes. 6. Assists in inventory and ordering of supplies for department. Ensures that adequate quantities of supplies are available. Identifies product needs for special orders to department manager. Participates in annual inventory. 7. Orients and trains new staff members to the unit. Plans in-service training of new technicians, ensuring proper orientation of technical associates and assists in the coordination of their in-house continuing education program. 8. Interacts with patients and families to ensure a positive patient experience. 9. Transport patients, as necessary, within the facility according to policy and procedure. 10. Participates in quality review program by monitoring technical staff. Assists with developing new work methodologies to improve the quality of service rendered

Requirements

- High School Diploma or equivalent - Associate’s degree or higher (preferred) - At least five years of experience as an Endoscopy technician (see job duties item number 2) or equivalent training and verification of previous experience in advanced technology. - American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS. - ASGE and/or SGNA Certification (preferred)

Qualifications

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
