Endeavors - Chief Communications Officer
Endeavors is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals, families, and communities experiencing crisis. Founded in San Antonio in 1969, Endeavors provides relief and support to vulnerable populations across the nation, including mental health and wellness services, rapid response and shelter, case management, supportive services, and programs serving Veterans, military families, individuals experiencing homelessness, and communities impacted by crisis and disaster. About the role
The Chief Communications Officer (CCO) joins Endeavors at a pivotal moment in the organization’s evolution, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer as a trusted advisor and key member of the executive leadership team. This leader will provide strategic counsel on communications, public perception, organizational reputation, and crisis response, shaping a clear and cohesive narrative across Endeavors' diverse programs. The CCO will lead an integrated communications and marketing strategy to strengthen the organization’s voice, elevate its brand, and increase understanding of its mission and impact among employees, partners, policymakers, media, and the communities it serves.
This role is an opportunity for a strategic storyteller to connect Endeavors’ many programs, clients, and areas of impact into a unified narrative. The CCO will oversee the Director of Marketing, Director of Communications, and Director of Advancement & Impact, providing strategic direction and mentorship to ensure cohesive support of Endeavors’ mission and priorities. The successful candidate will help the organization confidently communicate its accomplishments while honoring its humility and deep focus on the people it serves.
The CCO will also strengthen internal communications across a geographically dispersed workforce of 1,800 employees, ensuring staff understand the broader Endeavors story and how their work contributes to the mission. This is a chance for an experienced communications executive to shape the next chapter of one of the nation’s largest faith-based human services organizations.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for Endeavors' comprehensive communications, marketing, public relations, and external affairs efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and mission.
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team, offering counsel on communications, public perception, organizational reputation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Act as the organization's primary spokesperson and lead storyteller, representing Endeavors with media, government leaders, partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy that elevates Endeavors' visibility, strengthens its reputation, and increases engagement with key audiences.
- Create a cohesive organizational narrative that connects Endeavors' diverse programs, clients, and areas of impact, making the organization's complexity understandable and compelling.
- Strengthen Endeavors' national brand and public profile through compelling storytelling, media relations, digital engagement, and strategic communications.
- Develop thoughtful communications strategies to position Endeavors effectively within a complex and evolving public environment, ensuring its mission and impact are clearly understood.
- Oversee the development and implementation of marketing strategies for Endeavors’ philanthropic efforts, internal and external events, and employment engagement activities.
- Strengthen internal communications and employee engagement across a geographically dispersed workforce, ensuring employees are informed, connected to the mission, and aligned around shared priorities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing communications team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, creativity, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate across departments and functions to ensure communications strategies support organization-wide priorities and strengthen alignment across Endeavors' diverse programs, entities, and philanthropic efforts.
- Use data, analytics, and audience insights to evaluate communications effectiveness, measure impact, and continuously improve outreach strategies.

- Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex organizational priorities and human experiences into clear, authentic, and compelling narratives.
- Experience connecting individual programs and client stories to a larger organizational mission, helping audiences understand not only what the organization does, but why it matters.
- Executive-level judgment and experience serving as part of a senior leadership or executive team, acting as a trusted thought partner to the CEO and senior leaders.
- Sound judgment under pressure, with experience advising leadership through complex, rapidly evolving situations, anticipating reputational risk, and developing thoughtful communication strategies.
- Track record as a collaborative team builder and servant leader, fostering organizational cohesion, strengthening internal communications, and empowering employees to succeed.

Pay
Salary range: $250,000 to $300,000, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
This position is based in San Antonio, Texas, with flexible work arrangements. Remote work may be considered for an exceptional candidate. Individual program leaders determine the appropriate structure for their teams based on organizational and programmatic needs.
