EMT Trainee - Medical Transportation

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for aspiring EMTs. Due to recent expansion of services, HealthPartners Medical Transportation (HPMT) has several positions available for EMT Trainees. This role provides hands-on training and education to complete EMT certification with the Minnesota Emergency Services Regulatory Board. It is designed for individuals interested in the EMS field who do not already hold an EMT certificate.

About the role

The EMT Trainee performs duties in the maintenance and setup of BLS ambulance and wheelchair van equipment, operates department vehicles, and provides non-emergent medical transportation services under MN Department of Transportation (DOT) Specialized Transportation Service (STS) authority. Trainees assist in delivering Basic Life Support services under the direction of an EMT/Lead EMT in various settings and document services in the approved ePCR system.

The EMT Trainee plays a critical role in providing transportation services while training to become a certified EMT. If not already enrolled in an EMT program, department-sponsored training will be provided over a few months. If already enrolled, tuition reimbursement is available to help cover training costs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and set up BLS ambulance and wheelchair van equipment.
• Operate department vehicles and provide non-emergent medical transportation services per MN DOT STS authority.
• Assist in delivering Basic Life Support services under the direction of an EMT/Lead EMT in hospital, on-scene, or moving ambulances.
• Document services provided to patients in the approved ePCR system.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Accepted and/or enrolled in an EMT Training program or enrollment in a department-sponsored EMT training course within 6 months of hire.
• Must remain enrolled in an EMT training program and progress toward graduation as a certified EMT or await MN EMSRB certification upon completion.
• Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
• Must meet MN DOT STS Driver requirements, including:
  • No driver’s license cancellations, revocations, or suspensions in the past three years.
  • No convictions for driving without a valid license for the class of vehicle driven.
  • No convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, alcohol-related driving by commercial vehicle drivers, or driver’s license revocations under MN statutes.
• Pass DOT physical examination.
• Complete MN DOT STS Driver Training within 45 days of hire.
