Job Overview

The BLS (Basic Life Support Supervisor) supervises the performance and daily operations of the Mobile Health, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department, ensuring prompt response to 911 calls and the provision of quality medical treatment and transportation to appropriate medical facilities. Involves serving as supervisor of all EMS staff and, in the event that team members are classified as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED – Must be 18 years’ of age
  • New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, or National Registry EMT
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider
  • Current Driver’s License and must satisfy current vehicle insurance requirements
  • Must possess ICS100, 200, and NIMS 700, 800
  • Complete Hazardous Materials Awareness training, HAZMAT operations within 6 months of hire date
  • Complete Weapons of Mass Destruction or CBRNE Awareness training, CBRNE Operations within 6 months of hire date

Preferred

  • Associates Degree
  • 3- 5 years of supervisory experience
  • PHTLS/ITLSPre-Hospital Trauma Life Support or International Trauma Life Support
  • NEMSMA Supervising Paramedic Officer (ACPE)

Scheduling Requirements

Full-Time, Days40 hours per week

Essential Functions

  • Consistently demonstrate and support Mobile Health’s mission, vision, core values
  • Supervises response teams including Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics which involves such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, responding and resolving employee concerns, recommending promotions, counseling and correction action
  • Serve as supervisor of all EMS staff and, in the event that team members are classified as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic
  • Supervise EMTs and Paramedics who respond to emergency calls as a mobile medical unit attendant or driver; performs duties in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, local ordinances, established policies, procedures and protocols, and within established chain of command; refers to policy manuals as necessary
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations on all employees assigned on a shift
  • Maintains clear and concise communication with EMS personnel, hospital personal, and medical personnel
  • Establishes rapport with patients, family members of patients and other EMS providers/agencies and communities we serve
  • Manages day-to-day operations on an assigned shift; ensures maintenance of vehicles
  • Delivers and issues supplies to stations and team members
  • Implements quality assurance and safety programs
  • Attends meetings and trainings as directed
  • Performs such duties as CPR, cardiac monitoring, medication calculation and administration, splint application, wound treatment, control of bleeding, monitoring and relaying of vital signs, oxygen and IV therapy administration, sterile suctioning, intubation, defibrillation, ECG monitoring, 12 lead interpretation and the management of cardiac arrest and severe trauma patients
  • Performs extrication of victims from wreckages as necessary
  • Implements quality assurance programs; attends meetings as directed
  • Maintains narcotic and non-narcotic drug stocks in order to provide replacements for all ambulances and stations; perform duties such as proper record keeping, quality assurance, tracking and control of all narcotics
  • Affords assessment and evaluation of situations of emergency response
  • Participate in the onboarding and orientation of new EMTs, Paramedics and RNs
  • Completes required records and forms documenting patient treatment
  • Collects, reviews and submits reports prepared by team members; ensures that reports are accurate and properly completed
  • Operates an ambulance, rescue unit and a wide range of life-saving/life supporting equipment, tools, safety gear, siren, medical instruments and supplies
  • Wears protective equipment when on scene and reports incidents of significant exposure; cleans or properly discards contaminated equipment, according to established policies and procedures
  • Responds to emergency calls, providing basic and advanced life support treatment to patients as well as transportation to appropriate medical facilities
  • Affords assessment of the condition of patients and makes decisions regarding proper courses of action
